I have completed Old blood, TNO and am just about to complete new colossus. While I think colossus was fun and did enjoy it all together I still preferred old blood and TNO. I was wondering if anyone here could give any details about return to castle wolfenstein and wolfenstein (2009). I have heard that although different from the modern games they are still considered good.

On a side note I was wondering if The Freedom Chronicles for wolfenstein 2 is worth it, 25$ seems a bit expensive for an expansion pack.

the freedom chronicles don’t really do anything the main game doesn’t. it’s fine if you want a few more side stories i guess

if you’re on steam, return to castle wolfenstein has a free overhaul mod on steam called RealRTCW that is basically the full game + several expansions + some light modernising; you can just buy the original game and then install/launch the mod directly from the steam page. i would say that is more worth it than the freedom chronicles honestly

although i like the expansion it is absolutely not worth 25$… i paid around 10$ including the main game when there was a sale.

rtcw was great back then but i have no idea how well it aged, never played the 2009 entry.

The old series is quite different compared to the roboot, but they are absolutely worth a shot! Especially Wolfenstein 2009 and RTCW! They go more into the Occult direction ... and the nazis haven't won the war yet.

Return to Castle Wolfenstein is easier to get, because of RealRTCW on Steam. Even got some additional Missions and some reworks and some modernization! Definitely worth a shot!

Wolfenstein 2009 on the other hand ... you have to pirate it, in order to be able to play it! But again, it is 100% worth the hassle! I would suggest to get in on Steamrip! It is also available on Steamunlocked, but that website is not safe! Third place is archive.org. There you are also able to get my all time favorite Wolfenstein!

Rtcw is an amazing game.

I got the 09 version from the Internet Archive with all the fixes. I just installed it and added it to Steam as a non-Steam game with absolutely zero issues. I even set it up so I can use the new Steam Controller with gyro and even HDR worked fine. It's been a blast to play and zero tweaking.

RTCW and 2009 are both worth it. I'd say RTCW is the better of the two.

Wolfenstein 3D is not worth going back to to. Feels like like a proof of concept for Doom which only came out a year later and blows it out of the water in every metric.

Castle Wolfenstein (1981) is a fantastic roguelike game that acts as the grandfather of the stealth genre. It is worth grabbing an Apple ][ emulator for and experiencing all of its weirdness for a couple hours.

RTCW is by far the best game in the franchise.

I loved RTCW but it was a long time ago that I played it so I don't know if it would hold up today. Obviously the graphics and everything are a lot more primitive but it had a cool, spooky story, and naturally, lots of Nazis to kill.

RTCW is the best Wolfenstein game, hands down.

Wolfenstein 2009 is one of the best underrated games ever. I enjoyed that game very much. It’s a bit old but it’s 100 worth it. It’s actually my favorite Wolfenstein game.

Wolfenstein 3D is very fun. It's not as complex as Doom but the combat is much more lethal and both you and the enemies can go down much quicker. I think it makes it pretty exciting.
