i mean like, quake 3 arena has its own excuse, but ET is a whole different story, the difference is that you can no longer improve your skills because there is on offline practice + THE ENTIRE PLAYER BASE ARE ALL SWEATS, on offence, but also the map is heugh, so you cant expect where is shots are from, although quake 3 is objectively harder and you cant deny that, at least you have a room for practice, but ET, nah, just play and the rest is all your problem, so yeah, teach me how.

(i am pretty good at arena shooters but ET is entirely different, it needs experience from the early days of the game i guess)

Idk man, I used to play this game a ton in college and recently tried again it as an almost-40-something, I’ve lost all my skills and can’t compete with the people who kept playing.

But it’s still fun! Just have to grind. Like any game, if you play it a ton you’ll pick up the nuances.

Same here, now pushing to mid 40s and I came back after >= 10 years of break. Almost everyone kicks my ass, but surely, ET is still fun, but even better when playing with friends :D

Hell yeah! I used to be so good at it and would be play through the night, was in an active clan and everything. Came back this year and I just repeatedly get my ass kicked now, but the nostalgia is worth it.

same but different, i've been playing quake III since i was 5 when i was casually playing on my uncle's computer (had windows xp on it), i took a break after getting our own pc (i share it wit my siblings) for 2 years or so, i lost 70% of my skill, but its still fun tho, (i am playing at least 4 hrs daily)i am 13 now, but i lived the life of the early 2000s, i still have a collection of dvd pc games on my old drawer (a lot of og games like medal of honor:allied Assault, need for speed most wanted 2005 THE GOAT of racing, and crysis where my fav dvds), and ofc, i had a low end pc, so i was obsessed with classic games such as project igi 1/2, although i am young to say that, but i am truly still living in the 2000s rn, no brain rot in the village i live in, and i spend (almost) all my time outdoors, and hell, even there is lan parties in there (this is how i got engaged in quake and counter strike 1.6)

Recently came back after not playing for 15 years, and I feel you. One of my biggest issues is that I have only a vague knowledge of the maps. Haven’t found a good set of videos or guides on learning the best pinch points, objectives, etc.

Best thing to do is observe a good player.

I would say it's 50% config 40% mouse and 10% skill. Really need a good mouse with lots of buttons and a well written config...maybe a good HUD helps too. For the total noobs I have a server called just aim practice.

I played with the top European players between 2004 and 2007 and had around 50% acc constantly. It really takes 2-3 years practice with very good players, nothing else can teach you how to player professionally.

Port a controller via xpadder... Get better than the mouse

I was once one of the highest ranked players in the game and used to be ranked very high on Q3. My advice for ET is to NOT play like Q3. Play slow and strategically, let the enemies come to you. A good CFG matters in the sense of turning off as much as legally possible.. but besides that, the game is really 50% map knowledge 50% aim. You dont necessarily have to play the map obj to be good either, but staying close to it and keeping track of where the obj is at during the map will help you predict where enemies will be coming from.
