I specifically created an account on Reddit and used a translator to write this angry post, because I am overwhelmed with emotions and I warn you in advance that I will not restrain my emotions further.

I'll start right away – fuck the first part, seriously. For me, this is the worst part of the entire franchise in general, where Lovecraft's nonsense was mixed with technology... nothing, but a wretched plot and a Fur Coat, and they told me straight out that it was bullshit. Gameplay-wise, yes, it is at all levels higher than the subsequent parts, but in all other aspects it sucks deeply.

What am I talking about? What is the name of the event?: QuakeCon, not BETHESDACon, but QuakeCon. What have we been shown from Quake? It's already the THIRD, bitch, THIRD addition to the 1996 fuck of the year game (still a board game, but who doesn't give a fuck). But the enthusiasm with which the new content for starfield was presented to us later is, of course, a shock.

In the 33 years of Doom's existence as a franchise, it has already gone through two relaunches (in 2004 and 2016). What have they done to quake in 30 years? They dropped the quake wars, gave the grandfathers a chew on quake live and did the fuck in quake champions, and then since 2016 they have been forcing mashingames to make dls for the first quake for 10 years.

For me, Stroggy is not just another template enemy, but a truly unique creation. The fact that they were left out just killed me. I love the second and fourth parts, no matter how much they hate it, and my hope that ZeniMax did not just patent the new QUAKE trademark for the 30th anniversary was brighter than the sun itself. For months, I waited furiously, counting the days, and couldn't think. About something else. I imagined a lot of things that could be imagined here and what I most wanted to believe in was restarting the war with the Stroggs, but they gave me a shit and told me to be grateful for it.

Thank you very much, ZeniMax, thank you very much to the AI managers who mind their own business, and thank you very much to those who read this (the time is 03:31 and I clearly could have messed up or confused a lot, so as soon as I oversleep: I'll answer something).

I think he’s mad nothing is happening with quake concerning quake 2 but that quake 1 got some love. For some reason he was expecting a big quake reveal on the vein of quake 2, 4, the ones with the strog for some reason. Never heard ANY evidence to justify that, any rumors always swirl around quake 1 style reboots, but apparently he hates quake 1 and only likes 2 so now he’s really mad that they’re giving him something for free that’s akin to a full game expansion.

As someone who prefers the atomsphere of the first game I would disagree. I mean if you played the last expansions Machine games for Quake 2, they have connected both Quake 1 and Quake 2 pretty seemlessly. With strogg finding the slipgates from Quake 1 to become a multi dimensional conquring race...pretty damn cool imo.

We are clearly not getting any Quake game any time soon and even if we did it will be likely with the concept of combining the concepts of Both Quake 1 and 2. It will likely not be ID as they have been gutted and just likely be just making doom.

I see Quake being revived under Machine games as they have been the ones who have added all of the new expansions and clearly have an interest in doing so.

Well, whether or not the lovecraftian medieval sci-fi theme is nosense or not comes down to personal preference, so i cannot argue with you on that.

When i was a child i preferred Q2/Q4 setting, maybe because Q1 scared the shit out of me at that time, but as i grew up the original atmosphere grew on me and now it’s my favorite. It’s one of those things that shouldn’t work on paper, but for some reason it does.

About the meaning of Quakecon: at this point i’m amazed that Bethesda/Microslop decided to keep it alive for all those years, the same way i’m amazed that QC servers are still up and running. Clearly the Quake franchise is not their main focus, it’s more of a courtesy treatment they do with minimal effort just to not show that they don’t care at all.

To be realistic, the franchise can’t sell like Doom, and when you’re controlled by a corporation money is the only thing that matters. Hopes for a new Quake, whether it’s a new title or a reboot, are low.

The new chapter left me both happy and angry for the reasons i wrote up here. It feels like a candy thrown at a child just to stop him from crying loud.

Another thing is that i regularly check on steamdb the numbers that all Quake games gain together, and it’s so small that it cannot be taken as a guarantee to invest in a new game. I think a big part of this problem is that a lot of players play custom mods, other engines, and stuff that isn’t officially trackable.

There’s so little we can do except keep playing and keep asking.

I mean we Quake 2 Remastered like about 3 years ago, we got a hige expansion connecting Quake 2 to Quake 1. Quake 2 64 having its biggest release and all.

Honestly I am thankful to Machine games and ID for these expansions with remasters for the Games as they have honestly been really great.

Yeah exactly. I can’t think of any reason to have hyped himself up for something like this. There’s just not a reason to be emotional about it, there were little to no signs at all. And they’re still just giving us free shit. And it’s stuff they honestly should probably charge for. These levels are really big, and 19 is huge!

I mean honestly, they are doing way more than any other company does. ID and Machine games have been remastering their old games while bringing back old expansions while adding more for the past few years.....we have gotten Quake, Quake 2, Doom+Doom 2, Heretic+Hexen, now a new Quake 1 Expansion.

Think of all the dead IPs like say Ultima, Myth, Thief, Unreal, Duke, Blood, FEAR etc. We barely get any comments from the publishers who have the IP.

To add, even if revived there can be a Monkey's Paw element to it...any new game will bring many changes.

For example Marathon is my fav sci-fi universe in fiction...I love the lore, stories of the games, The old games are flawed in many ways but I love them, the new game is an extraction shooter, I personally love the new Marathon game a lot but I know that many OG fans do not like the move to a Hardcore Multiplayer focus with a Live serivce.

Another example is Ultima, unlike Marathon which has a good but decisive entry, the last Ultima game was a shitty FPS called Ultima ascendent, the spiritual successor by Richard Garriot "Shroud of the Avatar" is also horrible.

Keeping all that in context, it is honestly amazing that we have been getting so many updates for old ID games along with new expansions.

Yeah they really have been going above and beyond. A real shame they got hit by those layoffs, they really didn’t deserve it. That was everyone else’s fuck up putting out garbage games for a decade all Id did was make good shit.

ID was likely hit becuase Doom the Dark Ages did not have much sales as it was on Game Pass, many played there instead of actually buying it...like it was intented by Microsoft back then.

Now the CEO changed so Game Pass is not as important now, they are slowly trying to move away from it.

Microsoft is punishing ID for a fuck up they did with over indexing on Game Pass.
