So, i pretty much got was installing some physical copy of games, because i enjoy that. I Installed quake III and loaded it up, and because it was my first time playing went into the settings and found the Player models. I saw that there were (what i found out soon after, i decided to look in the credits because they looked like people) player models of the devs of quake III. I also Found i PM labelled "ID".

I Learned soon after from my dad (he owned a tech store ages ago, around the time Quake 3 was released im pretty sure.) that the copy of the game i had was from the (im pretty sure) from the original shipment of Quake III sent to his store, and he said a few had some extra characters (aka. they might have been accidentally sent). I asked him what the other copies were like (i had researched all these characters at this point, only found some few pictures and videos of them, and none of the ID skin.) and they lacked the extra characters. (my dad had actual computers that people could play games on, probably not able to switch out the games of course.

From what i guess, these characters people found were found through the source code of the game. I have no idea on how those characters (presuming on a normal copy they arent available from the start.) Are put back into the game from the source code, because i dont understand stuff and there sure isn't any guides on how to get the.

Would like to know if this is DEFINITELY on every copy. if not and people get it through the source code, You guys now have the knowledge that actual copies of the game have those characters preloaded^(?.)

I'm interested in knowing if those playermodels are a thing on the Steam Quake 3 Arena.

I own Quake Live on Steam, but not Q3

The player models arent much special. They are just pms of the actual dev's. The ID one however, looks really nice. If it isnt on normal copies on quake 3, i doubt it would be on steam. Like i said, People might have looked through files and implemented them.

Here are some things that contain the Playmodels. They are skinning tutorials however

That simply has a picture

this is Recolour of The Carmack tutorial. Of course, its skinning, so they have been in the code so not much help

This is the exception that breaks what i know. All Dev skins showed off, With ID skin near the end. Problem is.... Dislikes Beat likes and the one comment says noob.

Desc for that is "I don't remember those first six id team models back when the game came out. Guess I missed that download?" It gets confusing. nothing else on this exists.

The L to D ratio and comments say that this is " fake" or "you suck at the game for not realising". i cant tell
