I've been replaying some of the newer Wolfenstein games and it's honestly made me wonder why the series doesn't seem to stick with younger gamers the way some other FPS franchises did like doom, Titanfall, etc have.

Maybe I'm wrong and I'm just in the wrong corners of the internet, but I rarely see people my age talking about Wolfenstein compared to Fallout, Doom, Halo, etc. For those of you who've been fans for a while, why do you think that is?

Is it the alternate history angle? The fact that it's single-player? The long gap between games? Youngblood? Something else?

I know battle-royale games and co-op/multiplayer games seem to be more top of mind for younger gamers but at the end of the day wolfenstein is still a shooter, and a pretty good one at that. They can't ONLY be playing Fortnite, right?

And what do you think Wolfenstein does better than people give it credit for, that the younger generation would like? For me it's the story, and how complex BJ is and even just a different view of the Nazi's but that's just me.

Genuinely curious because the more time I spend revisiting these games, the more surprised I am that they don't get talked about more!!!

I mean, that's my generation (90s kids) and I love Wolfenstein but im 32 now

the truly younger gamers? these kids don't have much of a taste profile or expansive library. they just mainline COD, Fortnite, all the pop culture trash made popular by streamers. They don't explore the vast library of great games that came before them. not enough battle passes and brain rot.

Tbh, its kinda relagated to being written about by essayists and fondly remembered by the people who played them.

It's story based , and the story requires understanding of some mature themes.

The gameplay itself isn't necessarily amazing its the way every element fits together.

Also advertising/ marketability.

For reference I'm 25 but am in the pocket who played new order, new colossus when they released (probably shouldn't have been at that age buttttttttt hey lmaoooo!) and i've played doom and titan fall! People either my age or younger don't seem to have also been playing wolfenstein but have played atleast doom, which is interesting.

Depends what you call still young. I am 19 and love this series from probably 2019. I freakin love it, its a shame apparently wolfenstein 2 did not stick or sold well in general compared to DOOM. I think it is maybe thanks to the fact that its more political maybe. I dont know nazis should not be counted as humans and those in wolfenstein fit in there too. But some people could not like that about it. DOOM is more arcady and unrealistic. You shoot demons from hell, there is no controversy. But nazis? No, no, no that is bad, nazis are humans too.

But i love about wolfenstein gameplay that it has that doom dna of carrying a fucking arsenal of like 12 weapons and dualwielding is something not many games do, in the style how new Wolfenstein does it. I just hope that us passionate fans get some closure with wolfenstein 3 and i will be happy

Well, DOOM is still coming out, Halo is still a flagship Xbox title, Titanfall is from what I understand a one of a kind.

Wolfenstein on the other hand had its last proper game almost 9 years ago (or 7 if you count Youngblood). I think it's the fact that this game focuses on the single-player rather than multiplayer that didn't help it get so popular among kids. Even with Return to Castle Wolfenstein, I recall that the multiplayer was a large reason behind that game's popularity.

I'm happy to see a 19 year old is carrying on the love of wolfenstein, i feel like any person younger than me (and i'm 25, by no means am i old LMAOOO) just hasn't bothered to check it out. I can see how the whole Nazi thing throws people off, especially since it's from the perspective of if they won the war. Hmmmm.

Interesting! I haven't gotten around to playing RCW, so I wasn't aware of the multiplayer! I saw their attempt at co-op for youngblood but that didn't seem to go over too well for them. Even though it's been awhile, we still see COD being one of the top games for the youngsters (which I know has alot to do with online but stilllllll)

Don't just go so far as to RCW. Try Wolfenstein 3D too, it's a good game to play while listening to some podcast in the background.

Doom has a great single player gameplay and fun lore, titan fall, fortnite, and CoD have great multiplayers that kept adding more to it and also give in to the addiction aspect with over stimulating colors/ actions, and constant achievements. Wolfenstein is a great story, but the gameplay could be better, not much strategy involved, shoot them, dont get shot, and even boss fights dont require strategy, just keep dumping rounds until they die. The other main reason is because its fighting nazis and honestly the younger generation are unfortunately more “sympathetic” towards them

Younger gamers don’t seem to respond well to the concept of Nazis being bad guys, seeing as how all their influencers are aligned with them 🤓

I still play Wolfenstein Enemy Territory online every now and then

I sort of stumbled on TNO just after it came out. I was aware of the old games (vaguely) but Doom was played by millions because it was on shareware, so the doom reboot was always going to be huge.

The younger gamers can't get into this series because they can't GET PSYCHED
