So I just got to the chapter 4, and I'm a little confused on the main character relationship with anya, like did she fall in love with him while he was a patient at the asylum.

I assumed that it was because the world went to shit, and he was the only one she could trust.

She immediately fell in love with him as soon as he was brought to the asylum. She had been waiting for someone like him to show up throughout the entire war, so she could take up her serial-killing nazis habit and turn it into a full insurgency.

Wasn't her cousin the serial killer?.

When BJ was in the asylum she had no idea who he was or what he did. If she knew the Nazis would have known first and killed him

And he didnt really talk so she knew nothing about him during these 14 years so no she couldn't have truly loved him as a person

She did however notice scars all over him and realise he must have been a soldier and spoke about the great strength he had (since he somehow kept his physique)

She was intrigued by him and wanted to know more about him but obviously didn't learn much

So at most she had a bit of a fascination of him maybe a crush but didnt know enough to love him

When they're on the train they've already almost died together at least twice that i can think of and they know they could die at any time so they may as well

However as the story progresses she opens up a lot more about her life and her trauma even sharing things about her family the second she finds out (her cousin) this is incrediblely deep and shows true trust and possibly love between them at this point

As the story progresses you see it turn from "we could die so lets do something" to something much more genuine and this develops even more in TNC

For more reason she probbaly didnt fall in love with him in the asylum is because it would be very fucking weird

BJ had horrible head trauma and had to rely on Anya for eating bathing and everything inbetween and at least in my opinion loving someone in that way who relies on you completely for survival is disgusting

However its shown in dialogue and cutscenes BJ did have feelings for Anya and felt a connection but also knew she wasnt feeling the same as she was the same to every other patient not just him but this probbaly deepened his feelings seeing her as genuine and a good person

tldr: BJ probbaly wanted Anya from the start and Anya develops feelings and love other the game

No, I'm pretty sure it was Anya herself who was the serial killer. While she hides under the pseudonym of "Ramona" the story makes it pretty clear that it is in fact Anya herself given that "Ramona" states that she's taking care of BJ in the asylum.

Later on the the game you get some audio recoridngs of Anyas "cousin"

This is Anya for a few reasons first i dont see talked about is Anya is very skilled shown in TNC in a few scenes but also the training rooms as she has some of the best scores (while being pregnant) she would have no past to explain why if she was not her "cousin"

Also when you see the recordings in the menu the name on the diary is clearly Any- and cut off nowhere near her cousins name but obviously Anyas name

Also the ages the "cousin" is 33 in 1956 Anya is 37 in 1960 although its not uncommon for cousins to be the same age this added with the other information just reinforces it

Theres a lot more but i think thats all you need to be convinced

This is relevant because it shows Anya is willing to do anything to kill Nazis no matter how brutal (burning alive) or how degrading it is (having sex with one)

Although we dont know BJ ever had sex with a nazi to get the kill we also know hes willing to do whatever it takes

While BJ was in the asylum Anya had very little idea who he was but knew he must have been a soldier due to his scars and was fascinated by that developing what i consider a strange relationship but defintley not romantical (at least i hope)

Its almost impossible she had information about who he was but made up lots of ideas about him being someone who would be willing to do anything to kill nazis like herself (a lucky guess)

For BJ its heavily implied he had feelings towards Anya as he felt a connection due to her kind treatment

Once they reach the train they've both had these ideas about each other and almost died together twice but dont truly know each other (therefore cant love one another truly)

However as the story progresses we see a deeper connection develop with Anya opening up more about her past her trauma and her "cousin" whilr BJ does the same. Not just a physical relationship like we see early on due to the stress of potential death and years of fascination for each other

As we move into TNC this relationship is shown even more but i dont wanna spoil too much so ill leave it there

They first sleep together on the train to Berlin, directly on the back of Anya's parents getting murdered, the asylum destroyed, patients massacred, and Blazko coming out of 15 years of veggie state. All of these are traumatic and emotionally charged reasons. Have you ever been near a person you found attractive as you were both going through cathartic emotional release? Chances are you'll end up fucking.

Doesn’t the last diary entry explicitly say it’s Anya the entire time?

Also the picture of her reading "Ramona's" diary is literally her holding a book that says "Belonging to Anya" on it in Polish.

I read it as something that developed gradually, not an instant romance at the asylum. Blazkowicz’s time there is important, but Anya’s feelings are also tied to who he is and what they survive together.

Not exactly. Their relationship develops after he wakes up and starts recovering; it’s more about mutual trust and connection than her falling for him while he was still a patient.
