ET: Legacy 2.80.1 'Path Cleared!'

ellr16 · 10 Sep 2026 at 07:54 · permalink

Two weeks ago we released ET: Legacy 2.80 'Clear the Path!'. After ET 2.55 and 2.60 for the official releases, the first ET: Legacy version was 2.70 in 2013. Nearly a decade after the start of this community project, we opened a new chapter by breaking in a new decimal in the versioning number.

Unfortunately, the 2.80 release had a few tiny issues, which we felt should be addressed now rather than in the next quarterly release around July. That's why yesterday we released ET: Legacy 2.80.1 'Path Cleared!'.

For a full changelog of both versions, please refer to our wiki. A few honourable mentions include:

* Optional prevention of Z-axis player shoving
* Swapped suicide animation to the default death animation
* Hitsound-related performance improvements
* New 'sharetimer' command to improve team play
* Added option to specify scoped sensitivity separately
* Added mod-sided flood protection
* Removed fps-dependency of 'wait' commands in map scripts
* Restored vanilla ET airstrike timing
Compared to vanilla ET, the first airstrike bomb was delayed by 750ms, which has been adjusted.
* The perceived shooting delay based on delayed firing sound on SDL2 audio backend has been addressed.
This includes changed default settings as well as an additional cvar (s\_sdlLevelSamps) you can set in the audio section in the in-game system options.
NOTE: The actual delay of 100ms when shooting remains. This only addresses the perceived delay based on audio latency.

SpoilerWe are aware of a bug occasionally triggering a second firing sound when shooting. We can assure you, this is only 'cosmetic'. There is no second bullet actually being fired. However, we are still investigating this, so unfortunately, the bug remains.

Awesome to see the community keeping this game alive after so long!

When I install it, my Windows defender starts yelling and quarantines the files. Just me?

Odd issues I noticed (playing on an 2.80.1 ETL server):

* connection interrupted icons are drawn through geometry (at least on seawall battery looking from outside the side door to the CP bunker)
* I found something on github about this, but I lost it and couldn't find it again :(
* a med pack might not spawn when you just gained enough charge (the charge is subtracted). At least it feels like that sometimes. Maybe I pick it up myself and no sound was playing; I am not sure...

It has been fun playing ET again :)

Oh, btw, is there a way to speed up the console scrolling?

What would be really nice is to include no quarter mod directly in Legacy pack... is it something possible ?

ellr16 · 10 Sep 2026 at 07:57 · permalink

NoQuarter has its source released, so technically it is possible. Unfortunately, we don't really have the people to maintain the mod. Since a few versions we at least managed to do frequent Legacy releases, however, supporting other mods as well just isn't feasible with our resources sadly. Sorry

Your antivirus software is flagging etl/etlded.exe as a potential virus - no need to panic! Just whitelist the binaries in your antivirus software. This is mainly caused by ETL code not being digitally signed by Microsoft, and the fact that the current release is less than a week old, so antivirus software have not yet learned that the game is not in fact a virus. Remember, the project is open source, anyone can view the code in our GitHub repository.

No quarter doesn't like ultra wide screen. It stretched my screen (I would rather see black bars.) Other mods showed correctly.
