Fix for "slow motion" stutters/frametime spikes

silver_rain · 13 Nov 2025 at 01:34 · permalink

EDIT: This may or may not also apply to Intel CPU's as well. I have no way of testing this. If someone is willing to try and report their findings in the comments, that would be super helpful.
A lot of people on Ryzen 7000/9000 series, including single-CCD chips like the 9800X3D, are seeing BF6 suddenly turn into a stuttering mess with huge frametime spikes, “latency variation” warnings, and “packet loss” icons. The common cause isn’t network or CPU/GPU performance at all: it’s Windows aggressively down-throttling the CPU when the game is in the foreground. HWinfo logs show effective clocks dropping as low as 900-1200 MHz the moment Battlefield gains focus, even though the system is on a Balanced power plan with proper chipset drivers. When the CPU is starved like this, the game's simulation thread starts missing tick deadlines, and the engine interprets the delayed updates as latency issues (hence the network icons) even on local servers with zero actual packet loss.
The fix is simply to stop Windows from throttling the CPU while the game is active. The easiest and most reliable way is to use Process Lasso and enable Performance Mode for the Battlefield executable. Performance Mode forces the game to run with unparked cores, stable turbo frequencies, and high scheduling priority, instantly eliminating the downclocking and restoring smooth frametimes. You should also exclude Battlefield from ProBalance (so it can’t be demoted) but you do not need to manually park or unpark cores. This affects single-CCD CPUs too because the issue isn’t CCD switching, it’s Windows misclassifying the game as a low-priority, “power-save eligible” process.
TLDR:
1. Download and install Process Lasso
2. Right click the executable in Process Lasso
3. Turn Performance Mode on
4. Exclude it from ProBalance
5. Restart the game (wasn't necessary in my case)

funny, now i was playing it okay, then left the computer running music and went to sleep for a few hours, come back and this started so i quit and rebooted the PC and it's happening again, so i just searched for "slow motion" in here which brings me here now, and i already use Process Lasso with Performance Mode but I will try removing ProBalance, thanks i will do that once the game's repair process is finished, try playing, and report back soon
something i just noticed is Windows has just downloaded a system update, that could be the cause, for me

disable your bad over clicking first I would suggest. and then upgrade too a 5090 anyway

I have a 3080 12gb and a Ryzen 7 9800X3d but can only manage 24 fps. I did the Process Lasso and no luck. Ever since yesterday the game was running well over 100 fps+. Is there anything else I can try?

so ya it works properly, so, i repaired game files first, then launched it and then excluded ProBalance, i have yet to restart the PC to install the Windows update
just curious, it may be related to ProBalance itself as I have all the Windows gaming settings turned On, and thus it could have prioritised the system updater - where you using Process Lasso with ProBalance when this started, for you ?

or even better try installing the 5090 into the CPU socket

I also have done a Windows Update so i cant tell its because of the BF Patch 1.1.5 or the Windwos Update causing this Issue but i have since yesterday FPS Lags and "Slow Motion" on Iberian Offensive around the Buildings.
Ryzen 5800x
4070
32 GB DDR4 3200
M2 SSD
Everything up to Date using WIndows 11.

Do you mean that you have High Performance mode (your power plan) enabled globally, or that Battlefield itself is already running with "Induce Performance Mode" selected for the executable itself? Selecting "Induce Performance Mode" for Battlefield specifically will result in the Bitsum High Performance power plan being enabled globally while the game is running, whereas simply having the power plan enabled will not prevent Windows from mistakenly deprioritizing the game.
I do suspect the issue stems from a Windows update, though.

This has to be the worst advice I've seen in a while
Just go and buy a $6000 GFX card .... Yes it's that much in Australian Freedom Units
How about I posit a different approach - One which may be to large for your comprehension based of your first response but I'll give it a shot.
How about no-one buys an Overpriced heap of garbage so that the Next GPU doesn't hit $10,000 ... and yeah before you laugh Nvidia WANT this ... And dummy's just give it too them
Funny thing is it doesn't make bad players any better at games :-)

In my specific case I found that ProBalance neither caused nor fixed the issue, because inducing Performing Mode independent from any other tweaks fixed the issue. However I excluded the game from ProBalance anyway because it's conducive to what we're trying to achieve here, which is forcing Windows to keep the game highest in the priority stack while it's running.
This issue started for me when I wasn't using Process Lasso for the game at all (I do use it for other titles), so no core affinities were selected, ProBalance was enabled (by default), Performance Mode for the BF6 executable specifically was disabled (by default), with the balanced global power plan selected.

Just to confirm we're suffering from the same issue here, in the game go ahead and enable the performance overlay in advanced mode. When in a match and tabbed out of the game (should still be visible if you're in windowed borderless) you'll see your frametime chart in the bottom left staying relatively consistent and smooth. Tabbing back into the game will make that graph go absolutely haywire as your performance tanks.
That will confirm we're dealing with the same issue. In that case, the Process Lasso fix should be working. Did you:
- right click the BF6 executable specifically and exclude it from ProBalance?
- right click the executable and induce performance mode?
This works because the symptoms when tabbing in/out confirm that this is an issue resulting from how Windows handles the client and where it lands in the priority stack. Another thing you can do to confirm this is monitor HWinfo when performing the same test to see what happens to your clock speeds when tabbing into the game. If they fall on their face, you have the same issue as me.

I have noticed this when alot of stuff is happening at the same time at the same spot, the game kinda moves in slow-mo, it doesnt feel like FPS stuttering, but as the game is slowing down abit

I'm wondering if it's more a problem with the BF6 workload profile and AMD architecture. I was helping another guy experiencing these slow motion time nudge issues and we found that while the core temps were 80C, and the CPU was reporting no thermal throttling, that the IOD (part of the CPU handing comms with RAM) was reaching 100C and causing throttling (that wasn't reported as CPU throttling in HWINFO64 etc.)
Do any of you want to post a link to a HWINFO64 log so we can take a look?

I have a log saved that I used to confirm that my clock speeds fell on their face after tabbing back into the game. I'll have to run through it when I get off work and look at the IOD readings. I'm quite sure the clock speeds getting dumped was the source of my issue specifically though, and inducing performance mode stopped that from happening.

Interesting. You may be experiencing a separate cause of the issue altogether then. Create a HWinfo64 log and take a look at your clock speeds going from the menu to a match, tabbing in and out, etc. Also check out your IOD readings as Zatick mentioned.
