So I might just be missinterpreting the survey data.
But is it actually a good thing that 78% of the people, who think the gunplay is of note, also think the gunplay is concerning?
Because if I remember the question from the servey correctly, DICE asked for highlights both good and bad and in the follow up question asked for negative/concerning areas.
So we get 41%
of all players
think the gunplay is of note and 32%
of all players
think the gunplay is concerning/ bad.
So in relative terms of all the people who think about the gunplay at all, 78% think it's concerning?

one third of all players think the gunplay is concerning.
But that also means 60% don't care either way while only 9% really like the changes.
9% like the gunplay as is
32% dislike the gunplay as is
and the rest doesn't care...
HOW IS THAT A GOOD THING, DICE????

count the players that stop playing because game modes removed and gunplay is ♥♥♥♥, so we aint in that survey

gun play is so trash... LMGs need a mega buff.. and yea removing game modes is so dumb...like why? is it a weird marketing strategy of the new modes??

gunplay is spiked an al beads...

this game and its gunplay are based around the controller aim assist. Us keyboard and mouse warriors out there are just cannon fodder to it.

gunplay is garbage

Another thing of note, we went from 80% having no strong feeling about the gunplay to 60%.
So these recent changes
doubled
the amount of people who care about gunplay.
And even worse, a majority of those people find the gunplay concerning/bad.
And don't forget the survey took place after a major content launch and it was multible choice.
My guess, many people just tagged performance and bugs as areas of concern as well, taking heat off the gunplay.
DICE is celebrating a single digit reduction in negative sentiment, while ignoring that the last survey took place after the patch-notes for season 4 dropped (and their plans for the gunplay came to light) and during a content drought.
So people had time to read the upcoming changes, get concerned and take the survey. Resulting in a large amount of backlash (i.e. 36% thinking the gunplay was concering)
And with the follow-up, while people are distracted by the new shiny, they can claim that the sentiment improved.
