I've used the mortar for a few games and it's just terrible. I'm not a mortar chud or anything like that, probably less than 100 mortar kills across all titles lol. Just wanted to use it as I hadn't before and wow..it's not surprising the only place you see this gadget used is in breakthrough (from my experience).

The main issues, any of which would make a drastic difference if improved, are AoE, damage, and accuracy...it's simple to use so low effort, low reward I suppose..but it's essentially ineffective.

IF there was several people communicating and mortaring the same locations, that could be effective but teamwork and communication to that degree simply don't exist in battlefield except maybe once every 20 games. I have only ever seen this happen in breakthrough and obliteration.

Across the 4 games I used it the entire CQ match I got less than 4 kills with just over 100 assists. I was mortaring entire clusters of enemies and...nothing.

It seems more effective at destroying equipment than actually killing enemies. It would be fine if the level of teamwork required to make it effective existed in battlefield but it just doesnt. And what the absolute FUCK are those useless smoke mortars?!?! Lmao. Absolutely awful 0/10 don't ever waste your time firing one.

the mortar is most effective as a squad weapon.

its MUCH more accurate if your recon paint a target. and you can also spot more enemy if recon can spot for you.

This is the way, 4 man mortar squad or 3 mortar and a recon spotting.

Using the mortar by yourself is doing fuck all unless you directly hit them with the shell.

I like running it as a two man, especially on breakthrough. Allows for some deterrent on the point

Man breakthrough was rough if more than 2 mortars were letting it rain on point

I feel like BF1 mortar worked just fine and wasn’t too bad, since it could b countered

Bro that shit annoying as hell on breakthrough. Is it effective for all modes? No. It’s meant for forced choke points and it’s plenty good. If they want to make it so you can’t deploy it in HQ then we can talk about buffing it again. Until then that’s a hard no

Thats a fair point but also sounds like either iffy map design or useless recons not using their drones 😑 but yeah, it was similar in bf4 because of basically the same problem. Imo it'd be nice if they functioned differently between CQ and breakthrough/obliteration. Its way too weak, slow, and inaccurate to be useful in conquest but way too oppressive in breakthrough.
