TL;DR: I’m not saying the Little Bird is perfectly balanced. The rocket pods are overtuned and should be removed or heavily nerfed. But saying it has “no counters” is ridiculous.
There are plenty of ways to kill or deny it: M136, RPG, TOW, stationary AA, mobile AA, other aircraft, vehicle HMGs, coordinated infantry fire, lock-ons and Recon painting.
And no, a counter doesn’t have to instantly kill the helicopter. If an IGLA forces it to flare, disengage and leave an area, that’s a successful counter. With multiple players coordinating, especially with Recon painting, BF6’s AA can become oppressive enough that a good pilot simply can’t operate in that area.
The bigger issue is that I don’t think DICE should keep blanket-nerfing the entire Little Bird. Raise the skill ceiling instead.
The 7.62 should have much less spread and actually reward precise tracking. Rework or remove the .50 cal. Gut the rocket pods. Keep the grenade launchers as the more accessible, noob-friendly option for people who don’t want to spend hundreds of hours mastering the miniguns.
That’s the important distinction: hard to master doesn’t have to mean inaccessible.
The grenade launchers can give newer pilots a relatively easy way to contribute without making the entire vehicle oppressive. They aren’t particularly problematic against infantry, but I do think their damage against helicopters and ground vehicles needs some adjustment.
That gives you a much healthier setup: grenade launchers for accessibility, precise miniguns for high-level skill expression, and no rocket pods turning the vehicle into an all-purpose farming machine.
A massive skill gap doesn’t automatically mean a massive skill ceiling. You can have an average pilot getting destroyed by an elite pilot while the actual mechanics are still forgiving. I want the elite pilot to be dangerous because they’re genuinely better at aiming, movement, positioning and decision-making — not because spread and forgiving weapons are doing half the work.
And please stop using 100+ kill games as proof that the vehicle is universally broken. Those are extreme games from extremely good pilots, usually under favorable circumstances. They’re not representative of every Little Bird in every lobby.
BF4 is the direction I’d rather see: high skill ceiling, strong vehicle, meaningful counters.
Not:
Make the helicopter weaker → average pilots stop using it → only elite pilots remain → everyone complains about elite pilots → nerf it again.
That cycle doesn’t solve anything.
I don’t want the Little Bird to be useless.
I want it to be hard as fuck to master while still being accessible to newer pilots.
Give casual pilots the grenade launcher. Give experienced pilots the ability to master the miniguns. Remove the brain-dead rocket pod farming.
That would create a much healthier skill gap without simply lowering the vehicle’s power across the board.
