I’m 30 years old and I’ve been playing Doom avidly since I was seven, so I think it’s time to give the successor a go. I ask about where to start because there’s about a hundred different ways to play Doom, and even more opinions on where to send a newcomer. I’ve got both a PC and a PS5 at my disposal.

Quake I

There is only quake 1.
Anything after is a different franchise.

Quake 1 is like Doom with 3d graphics, Quake 1 design and lore really resembles some Doom features.

Quake 1 remaster is amazing, have fun.

I’m also a DOOM guy and have only recently got into Quake.

Here’s what you do: buy the game on Steam.

Install VKQuake and import all of the game folders into your VKQuake folder.

Play Quake first, then the expansions ( Scourge or Armagon, Dissolution of Eternity).

Then play through the three recent Machine Games expansions (Dimensions of the Past, Dimensions of the Machine, Dawn of the Machine).

Finally, download the mod Arcane Dimensions and play through that.

Quake 1 remaster literally just got a whole new chapter added for the anniversary.

I'm a PC player but according to Gemini if you have the "enhanced edition" (i assume that's just the remake) you can go to the Switch eShop and download it as a free update.
